The University of Texas at San Antonio – Flawn Sciences Building HVAC
MEP Engineering, Inc. served as the prime professional service provider on this project, tasked with renovating two built-in place air handling units (172,000 CFM total). The scope of work included replacing the heating and chilled water coils, replacing all chamber insulation, upgrading the fire alarm system, installing new LED lighting, and upgrading all pneumatic controls to direct digital control.
Originally constructed in the 1960’s as part of the main campus, the Flawn Sciences Building is home to the UTSA School of Biology and School of Chemistry. MEP worked closely with UTSA to phase the design so that construction was completed over the winter break, avoiding costly shutdowns, and down time during the semester. As a result of MEP’s design efforts, improved space comfort was achieved along with improved equipment maintenance/access.
