Robert J. Schrader, P.E. Sr. Engineer | PM | Mechanical

Prior to working in the private sector, Robert J. Schrader, P.E., had an extensive and decorated military career in the United States Air Force, eventually retiring with the rank of Major. The breadth of Bob’s technical expertise is such that he can design large central chilled water plants; plumbing systems including domestic hot, tempered, and cold water; waste and vent piping; natural or medical gas distribution piping; or energy conservation and energy recovery systems. Since joining MEP in 2004, Bob has been involved in a diverse portfolio of projects.  He has worked on everything from research institute laboratories, K-12 school designs, medical facilities, manufacturing facilities, as well as military facilities, including US military bases in Afghanistan.  One of Bob’s many strengths as an engineer is his fastidious attention to detail, which is required on many of the unique projects he designs.

Bob distinguishes himself for many reasons, most obviously in his USAF career, which served to imbue him with the specialized knowledge and experience in federal facilities management practices. This firmly establishes him as the go-to engineer for complicated government projects. Additionally, with his master’s degree in science management, Bob also has a comprehensive and well-rounded understanding of business practices. This affords him the opportunity to grasp the client’s perspective in proposing efficient yet value-oriented engineering solutions.

Outside of the office Bob enjoys spending a lot of time outdoors, including working in the yard, flying remote controlled 4-meter sailplanes, and stargazing with his refracting telescope. He devotes a fair amount of time to church activities, one of which is meeting with inmates at the Torres Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Facility. Most of all though, he enjoys time with family, including his wife Nancy, their three children and spouses, and their five grandchildren.
