Newton Collins Elementary School, Del Valle ISD’s ninth elementary school, is located on land purchased by the school’s namesake, Newton Isaac Collins Sr., a freed slave, more than a century ago. The facility was designed to be representative of the surrounding land of McKinney Falls State Park. It includes limestone and wood, as well as rippling textures to represent water. O’Connell Robertson served as the prime architect, and MEP Engineering, Inc. provided M|E|P subconsultant design services. This school, attended by Pre-K through fifth grade, is divided into neighborhoods which offer common areas outside of the classrooms. These spaces are often used for science labs or computer stations. The facility also includes a library, cafetorium, and gymnasium.
