This new performing arts facility was constructed as part of the larger new $97.5 million Tom Glenn High School.  MEP Engineering, Inc. teamed with Pfluger Architects and contributed the following to the project:

This $30.1 million project included a new 60,000 square foot performing arts facility, as well as a new athletics facility. This free standing performing arts center is a replacement for the previous space, which was inadequate and outdated. The new performing art center was built on the existing site, while maintain functionality of the school’s existing space.

MEP Engineering, Inc. was hired by Pfluger Architects, and contributed the following to the project:

• Chilled water AHUs
• Gas hydronic systems
• Plumbing systems including: domestic hot water, domestic cold water, and sanitary waste/vent piping
• Energy efficient lighting systems throughout

This project consisted of a new performing arts center, as well as a renovation for the existing band hall, field house, and locker rooms for East Central High School in San Antonio, Texas.  The performing arts center is 37,000 square feet, and can seat up to 1,000. The space includes more than just the theatre, it is utilized for a choir hall, drama classroom, rehearsal spaces, and a scene shop, essentially creating a space for all aspects of a production to coalesce.  MEP Engineering, Inc. designed new DX air handling systems for the facility, in addition to theatrical lighting and energy efficient LED lighting throughout the building.

Churchill High School’s Performing Arts Center is an adaptive re-use of the existing theatrical facilities with additions built on the existing site. As part of the scope, a scene shop and blackbox theater were added on to the existing performing arts center, while extensive renovations were completed within the theater itself. The project was complete while maintaining full functionality of the school’s facilities and utilities. The basic designs MEP Engineering, Inc. handled were the new chilled water system including both air handling units and fan coil units, as well as theatrical lighting. The completed project can seat up to 850.
