In 2021, Lake Travis ISD took occupancy of new additions at their Transportation and Distribution buildings located near Bee Cave, Texas.  The Transportation building received a 6,000 square foot addition with a large conference/training room, restroom facilities and support areas. Several existing support and administrative areas in this building also received updated lighting and furnishings. The Distribution building received a 15,000 square foot warehouse addition plus interior renovations in the existing administrative areas. A fire pump was added to the Distribution building for the additional square footage and to bring the existing warehouse up to current code requirements.

The VIA Paratransit Operations and Maintenance Facility in San Antonio, Texas, was designed to consolidate VIA’s transit operations into one central location by renovating a 90,000 square-foot building on an 11.5-acre campus. Previously housing a large nightclub, this challenging adaptive reuse project included an extensive site overhaul to transform the facility into administrative offices, vehicle maintenance facilities, and driver support hub/lounge areas. For this Design-Build project, headed up by Nunnelly General Contractor and designed by RVK Architecture, MEP provided both design and construction administration engineering and full MEP systems commissioning services. The project’s commissioning scope included testing and verification of several rooftop air handling units (RTUs), fan-powered variable air volume boxes (VAVs), dedicated computer room air-conditioning units (CRACs), a 650 KW diesel generator, and natural gas radiant heaters and DX make-up air units supporting the expansive vehicle maintenance areas. Commissioning services for this project were completed in Spring 2023.

The Westside Transportation Center was built as the first of many additions on Pearson Ranch Road for Round Rock ISD.  This facility has fueling stations for district vehicles and a 30,000 gallon, above ground fuel storage tank.  A bus wash was provided for the maintenance and cleaning of district vehicles. The facility has six vehicle maintenance bays, staff offices, and training rooms. This new facility was designed to provide for 145 buses and 190 cars for staff.

PODS Warehouse, a single story 54,500 square foot storage facility, is located in San Marcos, Texas. This design-build project, implemented by Sabre Commercial, was constructed for the purpose of housing PODs containers. The warehouse space is not climate controlled, but MEP Engineering designed plumbing and HVAC systems for the onsite office.

This new $6.8 million transportation center included a 7,400 square foot administration building, a 13,000 square foot maintenance space, and a 1,600 square foot bus wash facility with six bays, on a 22 acre site in South East Austin.  Other attributes of the facility are a classroom, which has seating for 40 people; a break room for 50 people; a parking lot with spaces for 238 passenger vehicles plus bus parking for 176 buses; an underground diesel storage tank; and a fueling station. MEP Engineering, Inc. was hired by BLGY Architecture. MEP was tasked with designing the following unique aspects of this project:

• Specialty plumbing for the bus wash, including high pressure piping for washing purposes
• Specialized piping for diesel fuel
• DX units for the administration building
• LED lighting was installed in the buildings, with specialty lighting in the maintenance bays
• LED lighting for the parking lot
• Electric hook-ups for the motorized gates

MEP Engineering, Inc. provided mechanical and plumbing design services for a new 636,000 square foot Sysco Foods distribution warehouse, offices, meat cutting facility, and vehicle maintenance facility located in Schertz, Texas. MEP also provided HVAC systems design for the facility, as well as traditional construction administration services.

MEP Engineering, Inc. acted as consultant to the mechanical subcontractor on the design-build project, coordinating the scope of the mechanical work with contractor and all project team consultants.

This two phase project included a new 31,000 square foot transportation center, 33,000 square foot operations center, fueling station, and bus wash facility for San Antonio Independent School District. The new facility was designed to provide for 120 buses and 220 cars for staff.

SAISD’s new transportation center includes transportation and dispatch offices, training room, break room, 13 bus maintenance/repair bays, automated bus wash, and parts storage. The operations center includes various trade workshops, 6 vehicle maintenance bays and offices.

M|E|P systems for the facility included overhead compressed air, oil, radiant heating, waste oil, shop and vehicle exhaust systems, dedicated outside air systems, packaged DX, and split DX HVAC systems.
