Austin ISD Transportation Center
This new $6.8 million transportation center included a 7,400 square foot administration building, a 13,000 square foot maintenance space, and a 1,600 square foot bus wash facility with six bays, on a 22 acre site in South East Austin. Other attributes of the facility are a classroom, which has seating for 40 people; a break room for 50 people; a parking lot with spaces for 238 passenger vehicles plus bus parking for 176 buses; an underground diesel storage tank; and a fueling station. MEP Engineering, Inc. was hired by BLGY Architecture. MEP was tasked with designing the following unique aspects of this project:
- Specialty plumbing for the bus wash, including high pressure piping for washing purposes
- Specialized piping for diesel fuel
- DX units for the administration building
- LED lighting was installed in the buildings, with specialty lighting in the maintenance bays
- LED lighting for the parking lot
- Electric hook-ups for the motorized gates
