University of Texas at San Antonio – Flawn Sciences Building HVAC

MEP Engineering, Inc. served as the Prime Professional Service Provider on these projects to renovate two built-in place air handling units (172,000 CFM total). The scope of work included replacing the heating and chilled water coils, replacing all chamber insulation, upgrading the fire alarm system, installing new LED lighting and upgrading all pneumatic controls to direct digital control.

Originally constructed in the 1960s as part of the main campus, the Flawn Sciences Building is home to the UTSA School of Biology and School of Chemistry.  MEP Engineering worked closely with UTSA to phase the design so that construction was completed over the winter break, avoid costly shutdowns and down time during the semester. As a result of MEP’s design efforts, improved space comfort was achieved along with improved equipment maintenance/access.
