North East ISD LEE High School New Athletics, Science, Theater & Central Plant Facilities

MEP Engineering, Inc. was commissioned on North East ISD’s oldest high school campus to design a new athletic facility, including locker rooms with specialized dehumidification systems; gym facilities; weight rooms; training rooms; and athletic support areas. As part of the project a new science building was designed as well with specialized lab exhaust, multi-purpose rooms, labs and common staff work areas.

The design provided for a phased construction approach which includes: (1) renovation/demolition of existing science and athletic facilities, (2) construction of new science, theater and athletics facilities, (3) relocation and reconstruction of the existing 1,600 ton chilled and heating water central plant all while keeping the campus active.

The project included a unique athletics facility design, with six tennis courts on the roof, to facilitate the need for additional space on the small 23 acre campus.

Nearly all of the campus utilities were replaced while maintaining an active campus, resulting in a unique design necessitating the need for redundant systems during construction and demolition.
