Joshua Kavanaugh, P.E. Engineer | Mechanical

One could certainly make the argument that Josh Kavanaugh is a bit of an over achiever.  Prior to joining MEP Engineering in 2017, first Josh earned B.A. and M.A. degrees in Music Performance, before going on to earn his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering. Since he began his engineering career, his experience included testing, troubleshooting, data collection, analysis, and document reporting related to commissioning and retro-commissioning of commercial buildings. At MEP, Josh quickly became a valuable resource for the design of both K-12 and higher education projects. He is adept at performing field investigations and developing existing conditions assessment reports for projects ranging from large commercial office buildings to university research laboratories. Josh’s easygoing personality and wide-ranging knowledge makes him a natural communicator, allowing him to easily and effectively explain complicated technical topics to both technical and non-technical clients and team members.  Josh is inquisitive and always eager to broaden his areas of expertise; he seizes every opportunity to learn about the newest engineering technologies. His meticulous attention to detail and teamwork makes him an asset to the MEP team.

Josh is also a Certified Energy Modeler, with the Austin Energy Integrated Modeling Incentive. At MEP he has become a go-to team member for building energy models and completing assessments for renewable energy systems.  He also has extensive experience in technical research, with one co-authored series of articles (“Long-Term Commercial GSHP Performance”) having been published in the ASHRAE Journal.

Although Josh’s work life may be focused on engineering, outside the office Josh enjoys playing and writing music, bowling, and re-watching the 2009 BCS National Championship Game at least once a year.
