History

MEP Engineering, Inc. was officially established in June 1995 by the firm’s cofounders: Bob Frick, P.E. and Mike Green, P.E. Having known each other from their early careers at a large Houston engineering/architecture firm, starting a consulting engineering business together was a natural progression. Over the years, Bob spent time as a facilities engineer for a global food services company, while Mike relocated to Austin to cofound a separate MEP consulting firm in 1983.  In 1995, after over 15 years of friendship and a shared entrepreneurial spirit, MEP Engineering was born. From its start, MEP has operated offices in both San Antonio and Austin, with Bob and Mike leading each respective office. In 1996, a third partner and former coworker, Rod Olivier, joined the firm to lead MEP’s electrical engineering department.

Over the years, MEP’s leaders have worked tirelessly to establish a hard-earned reputation for providing superior client service and developing innovative designs specifically suited to the needs and capabilities of an individual client. The company was built on a culture that focused on professional integrity and distinguishing itself from the competition. Important to this goal was establishing a recognizable style of work, with preeminent set of standards, and incorporating ingenuity and flexibility into the company’s design process. MEP offers a uniquely inclusive experience, placing a heavy emphasis on listening and understanding, inviting input from all stakeholders: owners, architectural clients, other consultants, as well as general contractors and construction managers. As a result, MEP has established long-lasting and mutually beneficial relationships with our clients and A/E/C industry partners that continue to this day.

Since our humble beginning in 1995, MEP has strategically grown in both the size of our company as well as the depth of our engineering talent.  Today, we offer a highly versatile group of engineering team members and an impressive portfolio of successfully completed projects spanning a range of market sectors.  We are recognized as industry experts in the design and application of high efficiency ground-coupled water source heat pump (geothermal) HVAC systems, with many of our geothermal designs ranking among the best performing buildings in the country as rated by the U.S. EPA’s Energy Star for Commercial Buildings Program.  Additionally, our team of experienced mechanical and electrical engineers have developed a reputation for successfully executing some of the most technically challenging project assignments for our higher education, governmental, K-12, research, and commercial clients.

In 2010, MEP began a leadership transition to the firm’s next generation of owners and leaders.  Today, the firm is led by cofounder/principal, Bob Frick, P.E., along with five professional engineer principals: Randy Fuston, P.E.; Joe Reyes, P.E., LEED AP BD+C; Josh Peterson, P.E., LEED AP BD+C, Mark Bemis, P.E., and Sandy Simko, P.E.  While cofounder, Mike Green, P.E., has stepped back from his leadership role, he remains a valuable and active resource for MEP as a senior consulting engineer.

As in the firm’s beginning, the new generation of MEP’s leaders remain not only professional colleagues but also genuine friends, both inside and outside of the office.  The firm’s culture of excellence continues to expand and develop as MEP looks forward to many more years of successful growth through innovative design, collaborative partnerships, and outstanding client service.
